About UFW Foundation: For 15 years, the UFW Foundation has mobilized farm workers and their organizations across the country to advocate for more equitable policies, such as immigration reform, pesticide protections, heat standards, hazard pay and other worker protections. We engage constituents in systemic change to break the cycle of poverty while also providing critical services. In fact, the UFW Foundation is the largest federally accredited immigration legal service provider in the state of California. The organization has staff in California, Washington, Arizona, Michigan, Washington D.C., and Georgia.

SUMMARY: The UFW Foundation is seeking a full-time temporary Data Assistant. The Data Assistant will collect and store data on program expectations, grant numbers, logistics, etc. The Data Assistant will bring technical expertise to ensure the quality and accuracy of that data, then process, design, and present it in ways to help the organization, its funders, partners, and community members make better decisions. The Data Assistant will take responsibility for managing our master data, developing reports, and troubleshooting data issues. To do well in this role you need a fine eye for detail and a deep understanding of the popular data analysis tools and databases. This position reports to Research and Data Analyst.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (This list is not exhaustive):

  1. Collect, extract, process, and analyze quantitative data from a variety of sources.
  2. Commission and decommission data sets.
  3. Conduct ad-hoc analysis and present results in a clear manner.
  4. Data mine using state-of-the-art methods.
  5. Manage master data, including creation, updates, and deletion.
  6. Process confidential data and information according to guidelines.
  7. Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis.
  8. Provide quality assurance of imported data.
  9. Respond to internal and external data requests in a timely and accurate fashion.
  10. Sift and analyze data from multiple angles, looking for trends that highlight problems or opportunities.
  11. Help develop reports and analysis.
  12. Help manage and design the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata.
  13. Support initiatives for data integrity and normalization.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. This position requires bilingual and/or bi-literate ability (English/Spanish).
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In-depth knowledge of California and national databases highly desirable.

ADDITIONAL AND/OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year or more of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current California driver’s license and insurance. 

  • Experience as a data analyst or specialist in related field and a demonstrated record of producing successful reports for a variety of audiences. Experience must include the application of quantitative methods and qualitative methods.
  • Experience with community-based data collection.
  • Ability to multi-tasks under deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MC Office applications.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate for this position must have a high level of professionalism and organization. The candidate must demonstrate competency in the following areas:

  • Ability to conduct data analysis for the UFW Foundation utilizing its various data sets, including but not limited to CRM database, texting programs, and other platforms used for conducting surveys.

  • Clearly communicate findings – through written reports, visualizations, and presentations so they are clear and impactful for policymakers as well as lay persons alike.
